Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! My name is Michelle Matter and I am very proud to be a Reading Teacher and Literacy Coach at Menomonee Falls High School!
I earned my Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and my Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Marquette University, with an emphasis on Literacy. I have been teaching for thirteen years. I have taught kindergarten through high school. I discovered my passion for teaching reading while attending Marquette University. I can thank one of my professors for sharing her deep understanding of literacy instruction with me and for helping me become successful as an educator. I can also thank my family who have supported me throughout my journey of being an educator.
One of our school goals this year at Menomonee Falls High School focuses on literacy. Nearly all jobs require employees to integrate new information with what they already know, understand several view points on a topic, interpret complex charts and tables, and critique opinions. Certainly literacy is about more than just reading words on a page and these rigorous demands are only likely to increase. Our goal is to help students develop their own literacy skills so they are able to successfully tackle the independent reading required of them beyond high school.
I am looking forward to a great year!
